The things we do for our kids, part deux

If you remember, I became a complete nut job in February hunting down Frozen Valentine's for Peyton. The crazy struck again, but this time, it had to do with Peyton's future school...so hang on to your hats, because as you can imagine, this is gonna be a wild ride.

Martin and I have been feeling a little less love for Peyton's current preschool lately. Coupled with the fact Peyton's two buddies are leaving her 4 year old ass in the dust and heading to kindergarten this fall (Peyton won't start kindergarten until fall of 2015), I was beginning to wonder if we needed to make some sort of a change.

Of course, wondering was as far as I got. Researching, changing, and transitioning Peyton to a new pre-school sounded like a giant beating. But, I continued to bitch about my problems to anyone who would listen. Luckily for me, my friend Jenny (likely in an effort to shut me up) suggested I look at the City of Scottsdale schools. She had heard they had a few locations that offered pre-K programs.

After a quick internet search, I found that Cheyenne - the school behind our house that is like the mecca of all schools (it's a public school but enrollment is based on a lottery system. Thousands apply. Only 100 get in), was, for the first time, offering a pre-K program.

SHUT. UP.

Even though Kindergarten was more than a year away, I was already plotting how I was going to rig the lottery system to get PK in. But the pre-K program HAD OPEN SPOTS.

I dropped everything I was doing and immediately set off into a tailspin of phone calls to the school district, Martin, and of course Jenny to discuss every aspect of this. Could I enroll her? What were the hours? How much? When does it start? Does she get preference for Kindergarten?

The whole process - from that first suggestion from Jenny, to the moment I dropped off Peyton's paperwork, thus securing her spot in the pre-K class lasted for less than 18 hours. In the span of that time, I talked to almost every single school employee (asking the same questions over and over again), had a lengthy pro-con conversation with Martin, secured Peyton's latest immunization records from her pediatrician, pulled nearly $1000 out of nowhere to pay for the tuition, made dinner, and slept for 6 hours.

Bottom line - Peyton starts a new preschool program on August 6. Hip Hip Hooray!
