Birthday Extravaganza: Party Preparations

Peyton's month-long celebration continued - Aunt Ginger came into town on Friday, and we enjoyed a day of playing and fun at home. Once the Princess was tucked snugly into her crib (her big birthday bash was the next day so she needed to rest up!) the whole family helped in transforming the house into a hot pink and lime green explosion of monkey fun.

My mom, sister, and I tediously fluffed tissue paper poms while sipping a Schramsburg rose of champagne. We had it pretty easy.

The boys, however, had the difficult task of assembling the wooden rocking horse I made for Peyton. The horse comes in about a million pieces - and I had spent the past six months painstakingly staining, drawing, stenciling, and personalizing the horse to match the decor in Peyton's room.

The directions weren't the greatest - and there were several four letter words uttered by Martin. After a few mishaps and one almost broken leg, the horse was assembled. Because of all the difficulties, there were nicks and scratches on the paint, so I had to stay up late to touch everything up.

After a lot of tension, Martin and my dad's persistence paid off - the finished product came out great. I went to bed hopeful that Peyton wouldn't be scared of the horse like she was her birthday hat.
