I was obsessed with the Royal Wedding. Martin even bought me a replica of Kate's sapphire and diamond engagement ring as an anniversary present. I read all the magazine stories, watched the TLC movie more than once, and brushed up on my royal history in the weeks leading up to the big event. And I was so excited to share the moment of watching the commoner become a Princess with my daughter. But disaster struck. I inadvertently planned a trip to Arizona the weekend of the wedding of the century. I would be 3,000 miles and three time zones away from my little princess on the big day.

My very own royal engagement ring. Not cheesy at all.
But, thanks to the world's greatest invention, I DVR'd about 7,000 hours of wedding coverage, including three different channels so the two of us could snuggle up in front of the TV with our own tiaras on and watch Kate walk down the aisle.
Too bad Peyton could have cared less. She hated the tiara Grandma bought for her to wear during the nuptials. It hurt her head. She kept taking it off and trying to put it on my head. And she was not in awe of the Alexander McQueen gown, gorgeous crown, long red carpet, or any of the other regalia that went along with the day. She was more interested in reading her dog book.
I desperately tried to get the perfect picture of Peyton and I, wearing our tiaras, watching the wedding. But, as you can see, she had other plans.
Trying to get her to wear her tiara.
Mom wears Peyton's, Peyton wears Mommy's.
It wasn't until more than a week later that she showed some interest. Reelz channel was running a repeat of the festivities (and I tuned in of course, because you really can't watch it too many times). Peyton sat quietly in her chair as the future King and Queen share their first ride as a married couple together. The tiaras were no where in site, and I'm not in the picture because I ran to get the camera. And if we're being honest, Peyton was really only interested in the horses pulling the carriage. But whatever. In 2011, Peyton and I watched the Royal Wedding together, wearing our crowns, drinking champagne, and we both loved every minute of it. At least that is how I will tell her it all happened.
